The term Academy is used to refer to the University as a space for the creation, transmission and dissemination of knowledge, a mission it carries out through its three core functions: teaching, research and cultural outreach. On this occasion, the foremost academic institution of Aragon, the University of Zaragoza, once again opens its doors to one of the most genuine expressions of our cultural heritage: the jota.
Under the title Jota in the Academy, the historic Paraninfo Hall will host a recital featuring Nacho del Río and Beatriz Bernad, two of the leading voices in the recovery, renewal and contemporary projection of Aragonese jota. Together, they will pay tribute to their mentor, Jesús Gracia, a key figure in jota singing and an undisputed reference of our cultural tradition.
The event will take place on 9 October 2026 at 7:30 p.m., bringing together memory, emotion and artistic excellence. The audience will enjoy a carefully selected programme of jota melodies, ranging from the most traditional styles to proposals that have emerged in recent decades, demonstrating the vitality and continuing evolution of Aragonese jota.
The recital will be accompanied by a rondalla ensemble conducted by Javier Badules, whose musicians will provide the perfect musical setting for an evening in which tradition and university life come together once again to celebrate one of Aragon’s most treasured hallmarks of identity.
