On Sunday, May 31 at 7:00 p.m., the Teatro Olimpia in Huesca will host Aragón en el corazón, the concert with which Biella Nuei celebrates its 40-year career. The Aragonese ensemble, a leading reference in Spanish folk music, will bring together numerous artists and groups from Alto Aragón in an event that promises to be both emotional and festive.
The group will perform several pieces from their new album, El árbol volador, accompanied by projections of the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, and will revisit their history alongside guests such as Roberto Ciria, Olga y Los Ministriles, Juanjo Javierre, the Municipal School of Jota and Folklore of Huesca, and the Ars Musicae Choir.
Founded in the 1980s by a group of young people fascinated by Aragonese traditional music, Biella Nuei has spent four decades researching, recovering, and reinterpreting the musical heritage of Aragón. Their work — blending songs in Spanish and Aragonese and the construction and use of traditional instruments — has earned awards such as Best European Folk Group (1993) and the National Folklore Prize (2002).
With twelve albums released and performances across Spain and in countries such as Italy, Germany, France, Portugal, Morocco, Egypt, and Israel, the group has carried Aragonese sounds far beyond its borders. For this anniversary, however, they wanted to return home and celebrate with their closest audience.
Several members of Biella Nuei combine their artistic activity with teaching at the Municipal School of Music and Dance of Zaragoza, and collaborate with organisations such as the Aragonese Society of Bagpipers.
