Dulzaineros del Bajo Aragón presents its new album “De palos, cintas y espadas”

The veteran group Dulzaineros del Bajo Aragón, with nearly forty years of experience dedicated to the recovery and promotion of traditional Aragonese music, presents its new recording project: De palos, cintas y espadas.

Founded in 1987, the group has developed an intense artistic and ethnographic activity that has taken it to perform throughout Aragon, various parts of Spain, and countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Hungary, and Thailand. Their approach is characterized by reinterpreting folk music and bringing it closer to contemporary audiences without losing its essence or educational value.

The new album, De palos, cintas y espadas, delves into Aragonese festive music and the traditional dances that have accompanied celebrations in streets and squares. The repertoire explores dance genres from the bagpipers’ tradition, from street parades to paloteao dance variations, performed with the rich and varied instrumentation that defines the group’s interpretations.

The work stands out for its use of traditional instruments such as the dulzaina, the gaita de boto, the hurdy-gurdy, and the accordion, combined with folk percussion made from spoons, pans, bones, and other everyday objects, evoking the spontaneous and festive atmosphere of old bureos.

Conceived as both an album and a performance, De palos, cintas y espadas offers an imaginary journey through Aragon’s festive music, recovering melodies and rhythms passed down from generation to generation.

Dulzaineros del Bajo Aragón is made up of:

Fernando Gabarrús – percussion, hurdy-gurdy, and vocals
